The march was led by a column of veterans of the gay pride movement, the organizers and participants of the first London march for the rights of minorities in 1972.
As has become traditional, all three branches of the British armed forces were represented at the parade. In recent years they have been allowed to be open about their sexual orientation and to wear their uniform at these types of events.

Employees of Google depicted their company logo using different colored balloons and continuously jumped from spot to spot, creating the impression of “doing a search.”
Despite their often extravagant appearance, many parade participants attempted to draw attention to very serious and pressing problems, ranging from combating homophobia in schools to the prevention of HIV and AIDS.
Due the shortage of funding this year there were practically no floats or other types of motorized transport. Vehicles for the disabled were an exception.
Souvenir stall owners in the area took advantage of the sales opportunities that opened up – on Saturday rainbow flags, whistles on ropes, and umbrellas to protect people from the inevitable rain showers were added to their usual range of products.
Nearby shops got into the spirit, too – in front of the entrance to an organic supermarket, a giant cupcake had been put together, each layer of icing representing a different color of the rainbow.
