A 5 year-old boy from Moscow won a competition to name Putin’s new puppy and visited the premier and his new pet at the Novo Ogarevo governmental residence near Moscow on Thursday. The boy chose the name Buffy.
The puppy was given to Putin by his Bulgarian counterpart Boyko Borisov during the Russian premier’s visit to Sofia on November 13.
Prize winner Dima Sokolov and his parents visited Putin and his fluffy pet at his residence outside Moscow. The premier introduced the puppy to Dima.
Putin said the puppy was growing bigger every day.

…But Buffy proved the premier wrong by sitting down when he was told to.
Putin said the present came as “a complete surprise” to him and that he had worried about how his other dog, Connie, would react to the newcomer. However, Putin said Buffy received a warm welcome in the Putin household.
The premier said he received a huge number of name proposals for the puppy. He said he wasn’t any good at thinking up original names by himself.
Putin described the pet as “stubborn,” and said the dog has already learnt how to open doors by standing on his hind legs.
The premier said this dog breed is like Mid-Asian Shepherd, which is popular in Russia, but its fur is thicker. Adult dogs of this breed reach up to 70 centimeters in height.
Dima told Putin that he had a German shepherd named Dan. Putin gave Dima a signed football in celebration of Russia winning the 2018 World Cup bid. “You will be 13 in 2018 and can play for the Russian junior team,” Putin told Dima.
