MOSCOW, July 31 (RIA Novosti) – Russia will suspend imports of soy beans, cornmeal, soymeal and sunflower seeds from Ukraine starting Friday, Russia's veterinary and phytosanitary watchdog said Thursday.

Ukrainian products delivered before August 1 are to be allowed into Russia following quarantine.

On Wednesday, an aide to Rosselkhoznadzor head Aleksei Alekseyenko said Russia was waiting for Ukraine’s response to the possible restrictions, and if Kiev fails to react, Moscow will implement the measure.

Last week, Rosselkhoznadzor said Russia could fully suspend imports from Ukraine while conducting talks on Kiev’s European integration. Russia earlier introduced a ban on pork and potato imports from Ukraine.

Russia’s consumer watchdog, Rospotrebnadzor, suspended imports of vegetables and fruits, as well as canned fish from the country on July 29.

Ukraine signed an association agreement with the EU on June 27. Russia voiced concern over the economic loss the new association would present for it by triggering an uncontrolled flow of duty-free goods.
