MOSCOW, August 11 (R-Sport) – Usain Bolt stormed to victory in the final of the 100 meters at the World Athletics Championships in Moscow on Sunday, beating his longtime rival Justin Gatlin.

The Jamaican ran a season best 9.77 second race, 0.19 seconds off his world record, with former Olympic champion Gatlin of the United States second in 9.85 seconds. Moscow was engulfed by a giant thunderstorm shortly before the sprint, which made the track slick with moisture.

Bronze went to Jamaica’s Nesta Carter, who clocked in at 9.95.

Bolt takes back the world crown after missing out on gold at the 2011 world championships in Daegu, South Korea, when he false started in the final and was forced to watch as fellow Jamaican Yohan Blake took gold.

Blake was absent from Moscow with injury, while positive drug tests kept away two more of the world's fastest men, Jamaica's Asafa Powell and Tyson Gay of the US. The championships are being held at Moscow’s vast Luzhniki arena, which hosted the 1980 Olympics, and will run through August 18.
