Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad vowed on Thursday that new sanctions against the Islamic Republic would not affect the country’s nuclear program, media reports said.

Ahmadinejad said no matter how many resolutions were passed, sanctions would not cause even “a minor change in our nuclear program.”

The UN, U.S. and Europe have imposed sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program, which Western powers suspect is aimed at creating a nuclear weapon. Iran denies the claim, saying it needs the program to generate civilian power.

"Iran does not need any nuclear bombs .... We are not in need of any bomb to fight against the arrogant powers," Ahmadinejad told civil and religious groups in Nigeria.

He also called the new U.S. sanctions “pathetic.”

Ahmadinejad said last week Tehran was ready to resume dialogue with the Iran Six of international mediators, but would put off talks until the end of August in order to "punish" the West for imposing fresh sanctions.
