Ten people were arrested by U.S. law enforcement a week ago on suspicion of being part of an espionage ring. The eleventh suspect, 54-year-old Canadian passport holder Christopher Metsos, was detained in Cyprus on Tuesday.

A day after he police on the island said they were looking for him after he apparently jumped a $33,000 bail. Police believes that the suspect may have crossed into the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Dimitris Christofias also told reporters in Nicosia that Cypriot authorities acted appropriately in handling the case, while the U.S. failed to provide the necessary documents in time.

"Only now are they providing them [documentation], only now are they preparing them," Christofias said. "I don't think it is appropriate to apportion blame to the Cyprus Republic."
