On Friday, December 25th the official schedule of the events, which will be held in Russia and the Netherlands during the bilateral year, has been published on the official website of the Russian government.
A series of events will be organized in both countries starting from February 2013, which will be aimed at demonstrating the rich history of Russia and the Netherlands and at emphasizing both countries’ efforts to promote their relations in different spheres, as well as find new fields for cooperation.
The first half of the event-program will be centered in the Netherlands. It will include the Russo-Dutch business forum, exhibitions of the State Hermitage, concerts by Russian music performers.
Starting from summer 2013 the main stage will move to Russia. In June representatives from the Netherlands are expected to become official guests of the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum. The main events of the Dutch program in Russia will be held in autumn 2013.
In accordance with the decree of the President of the Russian Federation the upcoming year 2013 has been declared the Year of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Russian Federation and the Year of the Russian Federation in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The original idea for the year was born during an official visit by Russian president Dmitry Medvedev to the Netherlands in June 2009. He was visiting Amsterdam to join the Dutch Queen Beatrix in the opening of the Hermitage Amsterdam - a branch of the world-famous museum in St Petersburg.
Bilateral years are a popular tradition for developing international relations for businessmen, artists and the general public. Similar high-level festivals have been held before between Russia and China as well as India, France, Spain and Germany.
