KIEV, August 3 (RIA Novosti) – Ukraine’s security troops have detained the editor-in-chief of a local newspaper, who was in charge of the press service of the Donetsk People’s Republic, a spokesman for Ukraine’s National Security information center said on Sunday.

Elena Blokha, the editor-in-chief of Munitsipalnaya Gazeta (Municipal Newspaper), was detained on Saturday while attempting to enter Crimea, spokesman Andriy Lysenko said.

The press service of the Donetsk mayor’s office, which founded the newspaper, told RIA Novosti Blokha has been on vacation since Saturday and she planned to go on a trip, without revealing further details.

In mid-April, Kiev launched a military crackdown on independence supporters in eastern Ukraine. According to the latest UN report, the conflict has claimed the lives of 1,129 civilians since then, with another 3,442 injured.
