Russia, US Hold Videoconference on Additional Flight Safety Measures in Syria
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US and Russian officials held constructive dialogue via videoconference on Tuesday on flight safety measures to deconflict air operations in Syria, US Department of Defense spokesperson Peter Cook said in a press release.

"The [US-Russian] conversation was constructive and the two sides agreed to continue safety discussions in this format in the future," Cook stated on Tuesday.

Cook noted that this was a regular session of dialogue with Russian defense officials to ensure each side continues to adhere to agreed-upon measures to mitigate incidents in the air over Syria, as stipulated in the Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries.

"The two sides reiterated the need to adhere to measures to enhance operational safety and avoid accidents and misunderstandings in the air space over Syria," Cook added.

On Tuesday, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that additional safety measures were discussed during the session and that US officials agreed to hold the next flight safety videoconference at the end of August.
