New president of Peru Pedro Pablo Kuczynski said that his desire is to see Peru as a more modern and fair country in five years.

MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) — Former World Bank economist Pedro Pablo Kuczynski promised to boost public security in Peru, in a speech after his swear-in ceremony Thursday.

The 77-year-old conservative narrowly defeated his right-wing rival and daughter of a jailed former Peruvian president, Keiko Fujimori, in the run-off vote last month.

"I want a social revolution for the country, it is my desire to see Peru as a more modern and fair country in five years," Kuczynski told the Congress after the official ceremony.

Kuczynski previously served two stints as Peru’s prime minister and economy minister under President Alejandro Toledo in the 2000s.
