Outgoing French Economy Minister Emmanuel Macron said Tuesday that he wanted to begin the new chapter of a political struggle and bring changes to France "already next year."

PARIS (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Macron announced his resignation.

French Economy Minister Macron Resigns, Finance Minister to Head Both Ministries

"I am determined to do everything to ensure that our values, our ideas and our actions could change France already next year," Macron said during his farewell speech.

He added that he would like "to begin the new chapter of a [political] struggle."

Macron was in the office for over two years. He was inaugurated on August 26, 2014.

According to the Elysee Palace, Finance Minister Michel Sapin will head both ministries.
