MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Former London Mayor Boris Johnson has been one of the key supporters of the Leave campaign. He stressed that the referendum outcome was more important for him than his political career.
"Let’s seize this chance and make this is our moment to stand tall in the world. That is the agenda for the next prime minister of our country. But I must tell you my friends… that having consulting my colleagues and in view of the circumstances in Parliament, I have concluded that person cannot be me," Johnson said during a press conference.
The Conservatives are preparing to vote on a new prime minister by October to replace David Cameron, who declared his resignation on June 24, a day after the United Kingdom’s vote to leave the European Union.
