Hollywood star Tom Cruise filed a $50 million lawsuit against two magazines claiming they defamed him by reporting that he abandoned his 6-year-old daughter Suri, celebrity website TMZ reported.

The magazines at the issue are In Touch and Life & Style that are owned by publishing company Bauer Publishing.

“Tom is a caring father who dearly loves Suri. She's a vital part of his life and always will be. To say he has 'abandoned' her is a vicious lie. To say it in lurid headlines with a tearful picture of Suri is reprehensible,” Cruise’s lawyer Bert Fields was quoted as saying by TMZ.

The cover of In Touch magazine’s October edition had a picture of Suri with the headline reading “Abandoned by Daddy.” Earlier in the year, Life & Style magazine also had a picture of crying Suri with the headline that said “Suri in Tears, Abandoned by Her Dad.”

“These serial defamers are foreign owned companies with their global headquarters in Hamburg. They take money from unsuspecting Americans by selling their malicious garbage. Having to pay a libel judgment may slow them down,” Fields added.

The lawyer also said that in case his client wins the lawsuit all the money will go to charity.
