South Korean director Kim Ki-Duk’s “Pieta” wins the main prize Golden Lion at the 69th Venice Film Festival.

The current director of the Venice Film Festival Alberto Barbera and the jury head American director Michael Mann gave the award to the winner.

Venice Film Festival was held from August 29 to September 8. The work of Kim Ki-Duk was one of 18 films presented in the main competition of the festival including a film by Russian director Kirill Serebrennikov “The Betrayal”, which did not get any awards.

The film ‘Pieta” whose title refers to the famous sculpture by Michelangelo, located in Vatican City, tells the story of a man Kang-do (Lee Jung-jin) who once met his mother (Cho Min-soo) who abandoned him at birth, this meeting makes him change his life.

The Silver Lion for best director went to Paul Thomas Anderson for “The Master.”

The best actress award went to Israeli actress Hadas Yaron for her role in “Fill the Void.”
