NEW YORK, September 28 (RIA Novosti, Andrei Loshchilin) - A charity event as part of the RUSSIA! exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum was held in New York on Tuesday evening. The organizer of the event, Russian Children's Welfare Society, a New York-based charity founded in 1926, raised about $50,000 from ticket sales.

Anna Sergeyeva-Gross, the director of the society's New York branch, said the money would be allocated to society programs to support orphanages and disabled children around Russia.

RUSSIA!, which opened in New York in mid-September, is the most comprehensive and significant exhibition of Russian art outside Russia since the end of the Cold War. With more than 250 artworks on display, many of which have rarely or never been shown abroad, this innovative presentation features the greatest masterpieces of Russian art from the 13th century to the present.
