MOSCOW, January 3 (RIA Novosti) – One policeman in the Moscow suburbs was killed and another seriously injured by an explosive device lobbed out of a car by an unidentified driver, investigators said Friday.
The driver threw the device at the policemen while they were checking the car’s paperwork after a car accident in the city of Zheleznodorozhny, said Olga Vrady, a spokeswoman for the Moscow region’s Investigative Committee.
She said the second policeman injured by the explosion is in serious condition.
The officers were responding to the scene of a collision between a Russian-made Lada VAZ-2104 and a BMW when the Lada driver attacked them. Earlier reports had said that the driver beat the officer to death.
Police said the suspect has been detained and is being tested for drug and alcohol intoxication.
