NIZHNY NOVGOROD, September 6 (RIA Novosti) – A man in the western Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod was beaten to death over 50 rubles, worth about $1.50 by today’s exchange rate, the region’s Investigative Committee announced.
The man’s body, covered in wounds and bruises to his face and head, was found naked in a city street, Russian media reported.
“An individual involved in the crime has been identified. It turned out to be a 39-year-old local resident, who has two previous convictions,” the committee’s statement said.
According to investigators, the suspect began beating the victim after repeated, insistent requests for 50 rubles.
A criminal case has been opened against the attacker for “deliberate infliction of grievous bodily harm, resulting in the death of the victim.” If convicted, the suspect faces up to 15 years in prison.
