MOSCOW, August 28 (RIA Novosti) – Policemen shot and wounded a man near St. Petersburg Wednesday after he tried to attack them with a chainsaw, a Russian Interior Ministry spokesman said.
Police received a telephone alert that a man from Kazakhstan was threatening a woman in the Leningrad Region village of Taitsy with a running chainsaw, apparently while under the influence of alcohol, the spokesman said.
After two policemen arrived at the scene the suspect turned the chainsaw on them, and after firing three warning shots one of the officers fired several rounds at the assailant.
The suspect was hospitalized with gunshot wounds in the stomach and arm.
