MOSCOW, April 29 (RIA Novosti) – A prominent expert in federal death penalty cases, whose client list includes the infamous Unabomber, has joined a stellar public defense team representing suspected Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, The Boston Globe reported.

According to the newspaper, US Magistrate Judge Marianne Bowler ruled on Monday that Judy Clarke, a California-based attorney, has the “background, knowledge and experience…to provide adequate representation to the defendant.”

Clarke has built her reputation by defending the Unabomber, Ted Kaczynski, Atlanta Olympics bomber Eric Rudolph, Tucson shooter Jared Loughner, and scores of other high-profile criminals.

All her clients received life sentences instead of the death penalty.

Clarke joins three other attorneys — Miriam Conrad, the chief federal public defender for the State of Massachusetts, and two assistant public defenders — in defending Tsarnaev, the Boston Globe said.

Tsarnaev, 19, is facing the possibility of the death penalty on charges of detonating a weapon of mass destruction and maliciously destroying public property.

He is currently being treated for injuries sustained in a shootout with police last week prior to his capture.

He and his older brother, Tamerlan, allegedly detonated two home-made bombs near the finish line of the famous Boston Marathon on April 15, killing three people and injuring more than 260.

Tamerlan, 26, was killed during a shootout with police days after the bombing.
