MOSCOW, April 18 (RIA Novosti) – Spain will extradite a Russian woman convicted of organizing a sex slavery ring, the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office said on Thursday.

Lyudmila Nesterova was convicted by both Spanish and Russian courts for her part in a criminal gang involved in the sex trade. Between 2006 and 2008, Nesterova recruited young women in central and southern Russia, promising them employment abroad as waitresses and dancers, but in reality forcing them into prostitution.

In October 2009 a Spanish court sentenced Nesterova to four years in prison. In March 2010 she was handed over to Russian law enforcement agencies, and Russian courts subsequently sentenced her to a total of nine years and five months in prison.

In July 2012 Nesterova was returned to Spain, but has now been released by the Spanish penal authorities and “is to be sent to Russia to serve the sentence imposed by the Russian court,” the Prosecutor’s Office said in the statement.
