IZHEVSK, January 21 (RIA Novosti) - A resident of Russia’s Volga Republic of Udmurtia hijacked a company bus because he had no money to pay for his fare to go home, the Interior Ministry said Monday.

The man drove the bus from company premises on Saturday, the ministry said.

“After a day’s work, as he was about to go home, the young man discovered he had no money to pay for his fare and he decided to take a company bus home,” the ministry said.

“Knowing that the bus driver’s door was not locked while the keys were in the cabin, the perpetrator hijacked it.”

When the company director saw the bus was missing he reported the case to the police, who quickly identified the hijacker from CCTV cameras.

However, law enforcement officials did not have to go to the young man’s home to get him, as his father had already delivered him to the police station.

“His father brought the hijacker to the police station as soon as he learned why there was a bus outside their home,” the ministry said.

The hijacker is facing up to five years in prison if convicted.
