A young Russian woman said she was gang-raped by five unidentified men in northern New Delhi but retracted her statement after police asked her to undergo a medical test, The Times of India said on Monday.
The 26-year-old victim, a native of Moscow, said she was going to her rented accommodation on Saturday night with her husband. Five men approached her and raped the woman at a secluded place.
As the case involved a foreign national, the joint commissioner of police of the area was also involved in investigating the case. Police asked the woman to undergo a medical examination to determine if she had been raped. After a five-hour long counseling session, the victim decided not to pursue the case.
"We have informed the Russian Embassy regarding the complaint. We have also informed them about her refusal to proceed with the case. We had counseled her but she does not want to proceed with the case," a police official told The India Times.
