The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) said on Monday it had uncovered a group of hackers who stole millions of dollars from Ukrainian and foreign banks.
The gang was detained with the help of U.S. law enforcement agencies in early August.
According to preliminary U.S. law enforcement data, U.S. citizens may have lost over $20 million to the hacker gang.
“Members of the group have created an extensive, well-hidden network throughout Ukraine, which included more than 20 people from Ukraine and foreigners,” the SBU said.
The gang members used specialized software and hardware devices and advanced computer technology. They committed unauthorized copying of confidential information from bank cards and then transferred stolen money to Ukrainian bank accounts.
