Most Russians support President Dmitry Medvedev’s initiative to fire officials suspected of corruption, according to a public opinion poll.
"Dismissal may be based on information obtained as a result of investigations even if they may not be formally used for criminal prosecution," Medvedev said at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum. "This essentially means dismissal for loss of confidence."
Medvedev also said he would submit a bill to parliament tightening prosecutorial oversight of criminal cases, especially the grounds for the initiation and termination of criminal proceedings.
