Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova has requested a wildcard for the Sydney International on January 9-15, The Age newspaper said.
The Sydney tournament organizers have agreed to reserve a wildcard for Sharapova if the three-time Grand Slam champion decides to play.
The tournament already has the world's top three tennis players - Caroline Wozniacki, Vera Zvonareva and Kim Clijsters.
