Chinese companies intend to increase their presence in Russia's Yamal LNG project by implementing their own technologies for liquefied natural gas production, the deputy head of China's National Energy Administration Zhang Yuqing said on Friday.

SOCHI, September 19 (RIA Novosti) – Chinese companies intend to increase their presence in Russia's Yamal LNG project by implementing their own technologies for liquefied natural gas production, the deputy head of China's National Energy Administration Zhang Yuqing said on Friday.

"When it comes to the Yamal LNG project, we are going to amplify cooperation, using Chinese technologies to begin gas deliveries from Yamal to China," Zhang said at the International Investment Forum, which is currently taking place in Sochi.

The deputy director noted that China has been actively investing in the development of liquefied natural gas (LNG) technologies for the past 4-5 years.

However, problems with the delivery of equipment for Russian energy projects because of EU sanctions cannot be ruled out, Zhang said.

The Yamal LNG project stipulates the drilling of some 200 wells, the creation of a pipeline system, gas treatment facilities and a liquefaction plant at the South-Tambeyskoye Field in Russia's northern Yamal Peninsula. Russian gas producer Novatek holds a 60 percent equity stake in the project, while China's CNPC and France's Total hold 20 percent each.
