An independent Scotland could "mirror Singapore," Sir Martin Sorrell, Chief Executive of WPP plc, the world's largest advertising company by revenues, said Friday.

NEW JERSEY, September 12 (RIA Novosti), Mark Hirst – An independent Scotland could "mirror Singapore," Sir Martin Sorrell, Chief Executive of WPP plc, the world's largest advertising company by revenues, said Friday.

"From a sort of marketing, trade and investment point of view, I think [an independent Scotland] would mirror Singapore," Sorrell said in an exclusive interview for US based Consumer News and Business Channel (CNBC).

"You know, the Chinese I'm sure will be interested in investing in Scotland. Maybe even other countries too," the WPP head added.

Sorrell believes the anti-Scottish independence side would narrowly win the referendum, but that would in itself lead to more uncertainty.

"I think there will be a small margin in favor of a No, but it will be very small. That, in a way, may be the worst result because it introduces a level of uncertainty," Sorrell said.

A range of economic questions would arise from a Yes vote, such as what role the Bank of England might play in independent Scotland, the WPP head added.

There would be implications whatever the result of the Scottish independence referendum held September 18, Sorrell continued.

"There will be a knock-on effect that this will have on any referendum [on continued membership of the EU] if there is one in 2017. On the basis of the data we see… it is quite clear that Britain would vote to be out," the WPP head said, adding that such vote would be a mistake.

"What do Scottish independence and an exit [by Britain] mean for the British economy? It's not good news. I think if that happens then that diminishes Britain's position and I think that is dangerous," Sorrell stressed.

On September 18, Scotland is scheduled to hold a referendum on independence from the United Kingdom. The voters will be asked one question, "Should Scotland be an independent country?
