MOSCOW, September 11 (RIA Novosti) – Poland's state-controlled oil and gas company PGNiG said Thursday Russian gas deliveries to the country had fallen by 45 percent, the TVN24 channel reported.

"Gas deliveries from Russia dropped by 45 percent," the channel said, citing a PGNiG statement.

On Wednesday, Dorota Gajewska, the spokesperson for Polskie Gornictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo SA (PGNiG), Polish largest oil and gas exploration and production company, announced that the supply of Russian gas to Poland fell by 20 percent on Monday and by 24 percent on Tuesday, compared to planned volumes. PGNiG reassured that the shortage of Russian gas will not affect consumers.

The company said in a statement "the reasons behind the reduced gas deliveries are being investigated, in particular to determine whether they are of technical or commercial nature."

"The delivery shortfall has been covered with natural gas supplies from other entry points to the Polish transmission system," PGNiG said.

Russian energy giant Gazprom said Wednesday that Polish delivery volumes remained equal to those in the past few days and stood at 23 million cubic meters daily.

In June, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Gazprom warned that Russia could reduce gas supplies to Europe, if Ukraine siphons off supplies going to Europe.

Poland started reverse-flow gas supply to Ukraine in April.
