NAYPYIDAW, August 29 (RIA Novosti) - Russia will undertake measures to protect its economy if the European Commission (EC) does not take its opinion on amendments to the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement into account, Russian Economic Development Minister Alexei Ulyukayev told journalists.

“As we said many times, we either find understanding and solve the issues, or if not – we will undertake protective measures, of which our colleagues have also been informed,“ the minister said, answering a question on Russia’s position toward the EC’s refusal to accept any amendments to the Association Agreement or its supplements.

Ulyukayev is currently on a working visit in the Myanmar capital Naypyidaw. On Friday, Russia and Myanmar signed an agreement on economic and trade cooperation.

On Thursday, EC spokesperson Peter Stano told RIA Novosti that it had no plans to discuss changes to the Association Agreement.

“The process of consultations on possible risks created by implementation of the AA/DCFTA can in no way lead to renegotiation of bilateral commitments between the EU and Ukraine,” Stano said.

Russia raised the issue of introducing changes to the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement at the trilateral Eurasian Customs Union-European Union-Ukraine talks held Tuesday in Minsk.
