Sanctions imposed on Russia by the United States and the European Union can negatively influence the macroeconomics development prognosis, Russia’s Minister of Economic Development Alexei Ulyukayev told journalists Wednesday.

MOSCOW, July 23 (RIA Novosti) - Sanctions imposed on Russia by the United States and the European Union can negatively influence the macroeconomics development prognosis, Russia’s Minister of Economic Development Alexei Ulyukayev told journalists Wednesday.

“We had in mind the prognosis for growth, and we have had these ideas before our well-respected partners had formulated their positions on sanctions. Objectively we could have and should have reviewed the prognosis towards the growth, but we need to make some further corrections,” explained Ulyukayev.

The sanctions imposed by the United States and the European Union have followed the reuniting of Russia and Crimea in March 2014. The restrictions concerned banning Russia’s citizens from entering these countries and freezing their assets.

In July, the United States expanded sanctions targeting Russia’s key financial, energy and defense institutions including Vnesheconombank (The Bank for Development and Foreign Economic Affairs), Gazprombank, Rosneft and Novatek. New measures also prevented the US residents from having contacts with a list of Russian defense institutions.
