JAKARTA, November 8 (RIA Novosti) – Russia’s flagship airline Aeroflot may convert the first Sukhoi Superjet 100 regional airliners it has received from aircraft maker Sukhoi into business jets, Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Vice President Igor Syrtsov said on Thursday.
Aeroflot has ordered 30 Superjet 100 planes from Sukhoi. It has taken delivery on 10 of them.
When asked by reporters about what Aeroflot intended to do with the Superjet 100 airliners it has already received from Sukhoi, Syrtsov said the planes could be turned into business jets and sold to other customers.
The Superjet 100 is a medium-haul passenger aircraft developed by Sukhoi in cooperation with US and European aviation corporations, including Boeing, Snecma, Thales, Messier Dowty, Liebherr Aerospace and Honeywell.
The aircraft is capable of carrying up to 100 passengers for 4,500 kilometers.
The SSJ 100 received its Type Certificate from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in February.
