State-owned hi-tech corporation Rostekhnologii (Russian Technologies) will buy 35 Boeing-737 airliners worth $3.5 billion at catalog prices, the companies said in a statement on Tuesday.

Rostekhnologii announced its decision on Tuesday to convert its option for 35 Boeing-737 airliners into a firm contract.

“The first delivery under the contract is scheduled for August 2018,” the statement said.

In August 2009, Rostekhnologii announced an open tender for the supply of medium-range narrow-bodied planes for state-owned airlines. Russia's United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), Boeing and Airbus all submitted bids and Boeing was chosen as the tender winner in May 2010.

In September 2010, Rostekhnologii signed an agreement with Boeing for 50 Boeing-737 Next Generation airliners, which included an option to buy 35 more planes.

In January 2012, Rostekhnologii signed a letter of intent with Russia’s flagship airline Aeroflot on the supply of 50 Boeing-737 Next Generation airliners under the terms of operational lease. The delivery is expected from September 2013 to 2017 for a lease term of 144 months.
