Russian police have suspended the license of private security company belonging to Russian opposition MP Gennady Gudkov, the Interior Ministry’s press office said on Wednesday.

Earlier this month, the police launched a planned inspection of St. Petersburg-based Oskord-Spb to check its compliance with arms legislation, which revealed numerous major violations of the law in its operations, the Interior Ministry said.

“The inspection held at this organization on July 31 exposed gross violations of the license requirements and conditions. In view of this, the insepction was used as the basis for a decision on August 3 to suspend the security firm’s license for a month to eliminate the violations exposed,” the Ministry said.

Gudkov, a deputy with the A Just Russia party and one of the best-known leaders of the recent opposition protests in Russia, has complained in recent weeks that the authorities have been putting pressure on members of his family since he became an outspoken critic of the Kremlin.

Earlier this month, Gudkov told RIA Novosti police officers tried to detain his wife Maria Gudkova for questioning as she got off a plane at Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport. Last month, Moscow police also asked a court to strip another private security firm, Pantan, controlled by Gudkov’s relatives, of its license.
