Ukraine’s privately held electricity generator DTEK has signed a contract with Russian electric power trader Inter RAO UES for supply of electricity to Russia, DTEK said on Thursday.

“DTEK has started a new era in the history of the Ukrainian power industry: as of today, after a long break, our country is supplying electricity to all neighboring countries where such deliveries are technologically possible,” DTEK Commercial Director Andrey Favorov said.

DTEK gave no details of the timeframe or the possible amount of electricity to be supplied to Russia.

Ukraine has been able to boost electricity generation in recent years, launching electric power exports to Hungary, Slovakia, Rumania, Poland, Belarus and Moldova.
