Japanese car-making giant Nissan will start production of low-cost Datsun models in Russia in 2014, Nissan Vostok General Director Francois Goupil de Bouille said on Wednesday.

"Datsuns will be on the streets in March 2014. They will be produced and sold [in Russia] in 2014," Buye said, but did not state a future price for the cars.

Nissan expects to sell about 100,000 car vehicles per year under this brand in 2016.

Buye also said a production site for Datsun in Russia had not yet been chosen.

Nissan's only assembly plant in Russia, located in St Petersburg in the country's north-west, produces the Nissan Teana, Nissan X-Trail and Nissan Murano models.
