Foreign investment in the economy of the Moscow Region may rise to $8 billion in 2012, Moscow Region Minister for Foreign Economic Relations Tigran Karakhanov said on Tuesday.

The minister earlier said that foreign investment in the region could reach about $7 billion in 2011.

“I hope that our forecast on the $7 billion investment will come true and next year we can come close to the $8 billion mark,” he said.

More than 20 foreign companies have come to the Moscow Region this year and they have created over 1,500 new jobs in the area, the minister said.

The average wage at enterprises built by foreign investors is considerably higher than the wage offered at domestic enterprises, he said.

“For example, the average (monthly) wage at the Toyota plant in Mytishchi is 100,000 rubles whereas the average wage level in this district does not exceed 35,000 rubles. The same is true at all the other enterprises with foreign investment he said.
