From January to October 2011, the Primorye Territory’s fishing seaports increased fish product transhipments to over 1.5 million metric tons, an 18% increase on 2010, the Territorial Administration’s press service said.

In all, stores nationwide have received fish product totaling 584,000 tons since the start of the year.

Of all export-oriented fish varieties caught by territorial companies, about 60% are delivered to China, and another 33% to South Korea. Fish exports to Japan do not exceed 5% because Japan primarily imports delicacies, including crab, shrimp, mollusks, clams, porcupine fish, salmon roe and kokanee (princess trout).

“Since early 2011, Primorye Territory fishing efforts have caught 660,000 metric tonnes of fish product. The main catch, Alaska (walleye) pollock, accounts for over 473,000 tons. Over 68,500 tons of herring, 22,500 tons of Pacific saury and 32,800 tons of squid have also been caught,” the press release said.

The Nakhodka and Vladivostok fishing ports are the main territorial seaports used for fish product transhipping.
