The Nabucco Gas Pipeline International consortium which is conducting the Nabucco pipeline project to carry gas from Central Asia to Europe whilst bypassing Russia, has made a proposal to Azerbaijan to deliver gas from its Shah Deniz gas condensate field in the Caspian Sea, Trend agency said, quoting company sources.
Trend quotes Nabucco Gas Pipeline International’s managing director Reinhard Mitschek, who expressed his belief that the consortium offered the best route for export of gas produced in the second stage of development from the Shah Deniz field project.
“Project Nabucco is commercially flourishing, and competitive,” Mitschek said, noting that the project “offers a no-lose variant for consumers and producers.”
Commercial deliveries of fuel by Nabucco are due to begin in 2017. Construction is due to start in 2013. Previously, construction was due to start in 2012 with deliveries beginning in 2015.
The partners in the project are OMV Gas GmbH (Austria), Botas (Turkey), Bulgargaz (Bulgaria), SNTGN Transgaz (Rumania), MOL (Hungary), and RWE (Germany). Each company has a 16.67 percent share.
Shah Deniz has an estimated reserves of 1.2 trillion cubic meters of gas. The contract to devlop the field was signed on June 4, 1996. The partners in the deal are BP (25.5 percent), GNKAR, NICO, Total and Lukoil (10 percent each) and TRAO with nine percent.
