Russia's food safety and sanitary watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor and their U.S. and European Union colleagues have held veterinary supervision talks ahead of Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), the service said on Monday.

They discussed the adaptation of key documents of the Customs Union initiated by Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan to international standards, including the Customs Union's agreement on veterinary and sanitary control.

The 150-member WTO is an international organization set up to liberalize global trade and regulate trade and political relations between its members. Russia, the only major economy not included in the organization, has been seeking membership in the WTO for about 18 years.

The parties also discussed adjustments in the system of foreign enterprises inspection and unified forms of veterinary certificates, the service said in a statement.
