The Brazilian energy market is one of the main priorities for Russian energy companies, an Energy Ministry official said on Thursday.

"We are participating in an exhibition [Rio Oil & Gas 2010] and inviting companies to it in order to promote energy policy," Stanislav Dorzhinkevich, the Deputy Director of the Department of Public Policy and Energy Efficiency of the Russian Energy Ministry, said.

Dorzhinkevich also noted the closed nature of the Brazilian energy market.

"Fuel and energy complex has a strategic meaning for any state. And, naturally, countries try to make it somewhat closed, opening up only for the spheres where they have some difficulties and cannot do anything independently," Dorzhinkevich said.

He added that as regards Brazil this referred to the country's oil and gas sector.

The Rio Oil & Gas Expo is Latin America's largest industrial exhibitions and one of the world's most significant. Companies from over 25 countries took part in the exhibition this year.
