RIO DE JANEIRO, July 4 (RIA Novosti) - Petrobras set a new monthly crude output record of 1.867 million barrels per day (bpd) in Brazil in June, the country's largest energy company said.

"This mark was 12,600 bpd higher than the previous one, set in December, at 1,855,000 bpd," the company said on its website on Thursday.

The new record is also 4.2% above average output which stood at 1,792,000 barrels per day last year.

The company said output was boosted by production at new wells and the launch of a new sea platform, Piranema.

Petrobras also said its natural gas output rose 36% to 8.6 million cubic meters year-on-year in the second quarter of 2008.

Petrobras is the world's sixth largest company by market value, and its reserves of oil equivalent have been assessed at 13 billion barrels.

The 2007 data on new high-quality light oil and natural gas fields could push Brazil to a leading position in the world for oil and gas output. The country is seeking to become one of the world's top ten holders for energy reserves.
