ST. PETERSBURG, October 27 (RIA Novosti) – An exhibit showcasing a secret passion for fine arts of the man behind some of the toughest characters in Hollywood was to open at a prestigious museum in Russia’s St. Petersburg on Sunday.

The Russian Museum presents a set of 30 paintings spanning four decades of Sylvester Stallone’s artistic endeavors.

Stallone, 67, created some of the artwork on the display for the exhibit, which marks a big break for the actor-cum-painter whose paintings have previously only been exhibited in private galleries.

The man behind Rocky Balboa and John Rambo said previously that his painting ambitions pre-date his Hollywood career.

He never put down the brush even after scoring big with his action movies. A pair of his paintings fetched a combined $90,000 at the Art Basel Miami Beach fair in 2009.

Russian Museum said the bulk of Stallone’s oeuvre belongs to the style of abstract expressionism.

His work is exhibited in the part of the museum that hosts works by Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol.
