Ideology Keeps Obama Off Campaign Trail: Strategist

WASHINGTON, October 21 (RIA Novosti) - US President Barack Obama is not a very popular guest on the Democratic campaign trail because he has managed to alienate voters across the ideological spectrum in addition to perceived incompetence, political strategist Seton Motley told RIA Novosti.

“The hard Left is upset that the very Left Barack Obama hasn’t been more Left. So they left. His unpopularity with the base – for not being Left enough – and the American people – for being way too Left, and his perceived incompetence - is why he’s been so infrequently campaigning for candidates,” Motley said on Monday.

A recent Pew poll indicates that 49 percent of Americans currently disapprove of Obama’s job performance. Due to his growing unpopularity, Motley sees candidates looking for alternatives, as well as placing more emphasis on a tactical ground game to generate turnout.

“They will rely instead on other, more popular surrogates and their very effective get-out-the-vote operation,” Motley added.

The most recent illustration of Obama’s negative impact was evident at a rally in the liberal-leaning state of Maryland on Sunday. Rather than attracting voters to support the Democratic candidate people reportedly walked out of the room in a persistent flow as Obama droned on with typical campaign slogans like: “There are no excuses" and "The future is up to us.” Obama chanted them over and over again, as the room gradually emptied.
