MOSCOW, October 6 (RIA Novosti) - The strategy adopted by the US-led coalition against the Islamic State (IS) is hasty and lacks foresight, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation at the Russian International Affairs Council Pyotr Stegniy said during a press conference Monday.

The coalition's tactics are "rushed and shortsighted," as the issue of fighting IS militants is "one of those problems that does not have an exclusively military solution," Stegniy said.

Many countries have contributed to the coalition's efforts against the IS but not all of the allies have demonstrated a decisiveness for military aggression.

Turkey is one of the states that has not yet conducted airstrikes on IS positions, offering instead logistical support to the coalition. The Turkish parliament has also approved the use of the country's territory and airspace for foreign military forces in fighting the IS.

"[Turkey is] ready to assist the coalition logistically taking into account infrastructural military capability of Turkey," Stegniy said.

Following IS aggression in Syria and Iraq, US President Barack Obama announced his decision to form an international anti-IS coalition on September 10 that currently comprises more than 60 countries, according to the State Department. The coalition has been carrying out airstrikes against IS positions since September in an effort to hamper the extremist group's advance, with the United States conducting its own strikes as early as August.
